South Jordan City is currently seeking interested individuals to participate on the new Public Arts & Cultural Development Board.

The Public Arts & Cultural Development Board is established for the purpose of fostering an environment where the arts can thrive and become an integral part of the infrastructure of the City of South Jordan and create a visual and aesthetic environment that incorporates art into the lives of all South Jordan residents.

This 14 member board will be filled with 8 members whom are arts professionals & arts administrators, and shall individually or collectively represent the major areas of the arts and design which include but are not limited to dance, folk arts, literature, media arts, music, theater, visual arts, architectural design and landscape architecture. Also, we are looking for 6 members from the community at large whom has interest in the arts.

All members of the Public Arts & Community Development Board will be appointed for two (2) year terms. It is required that board members will attend all regular meetings which are anticipated to be held once a month and on some special occasions.

Goals of the Public Art & Cultural Development Board are:

A. To advise City Council on the aesthetic quality of planned public developments to enhance the urban design quality in South Jordan;
B. To advise City Council on matters of cultural planning and development within the community;
C. To crate, recommend and implement art polices for the City;
D. To coordinate and administer defined art functions;
E. To assist in creating a positive image for the community that will benefit residents, attract businesses to locate in the city, and enhance the vision for South Jordan City’s future;
F. To educate the public, promote the arts, and increase public awareness of the benefits and the contributions of the arts to creating a well-rounded community;
G. To serve as a cultural resource center for the arts in all disciplines and at all levels;
H. To assist local cultural organizations in strengthening their art programming;
I. To provide financial resource information and assistance to artists, art groups, and art organizations; and
J. To operate in the public interest serving the community as a whole and serving no special interest.

Application deadline is January 15, 2005 at 5:00PM.
